Jet Airways (Mumbai International) and its tie up with Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) is to be investigated by the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) to ensure the deal is compliant with Singapore's Competition Act legislation.

The regulator said in a statement that it would scrutinize Etihad's recent acquisition of a 24% stake in the Indian carrier so as to ensure their partnership would not affect competition within Singapore.

"The notification is made in relation to Section 34 of the Competition Act which prohibits agreements between undertakings, decisions by associations of undertakings or concerted practices which have as their object or effect the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition within Singapore."

At present, Jet Airways offers direct flights to Singapore Changi from Chennai, Delhi International, and Mumbai International while Etihad offers flights to Singapore from Abu Dhabi International as well as from Brisbane International.

The CCS is currently seeking feedback from the public and other stakeholders until July 11, after which it will make its decision.
