EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) and other international carriers, with the exception of Emirates (EK, Dubai International) and Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International), have resumed scheduled services to the Yemeni capital, Sana. Carriers suspended operations to Yemen in mid-September following a flare up in fighting between Shiite rebels known as the Houthis and gunmen loyal to the Islah party, the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“The Sana’a airport is safe and the situation is stable there. The Transport Ministry will continue to provide services and facilitation to airline companies,” Yemen's Transport Minister Waed Badheeb told the state-run Saba News Agency earlier this month.
While fighting largely seized with the signing of a peace agreement on September 21, Houthi members have continued to check departing aircraft for opponents attempting to flee the capital.
