TransAsia Airways (Taipei Songshan) has announced it has placed an order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for four A330-800neo aircraft with deliveries scheduled to start towards the end of 2018 at the earliest. The Taiwanese carrier has also secured options for an additional four aircraft of the type.

Speaking to the Taipei Times during a press conference in the Taiwanese capital, chairman Vincent Lin told the newspaper that TransAsia also plans to use the aircraft for long-haul expansion in the long term. Besides its narrowbody and turboprop aircraft, TransAsia already operates two A330-300 on regional services and plans to lease two more in 2015 to support expansion in the region including charter flights to the Northern Mariana Islands (Tinian) and Guam International.
