GX Airlines (GX, Nanning) commenced scheduled operations on Friday, February 13, with flights between Nanning and Haikou. Service is onboard the start-up's sole aircraft, an E190 B-3215 (cn 19000591), on lease from parent Tianjin Airlines (GS, Tianjin). A further four of the type are expected to arrive in due course.
A 70/30 joint venture between Tianjin Airlines and the Beibu Gulf Investment Group with CNY3 billion (USD480 million) in start-up capital, GX Airlines will offer scheduled domestic flights out of China's Southeast costal region to Changzhi, Dalian, Linyi, Jiujiang, Tianjin, Xi'an Xianyang, and Yiwu initially. Thereafter, in the longrun, the HNA Group subsidiary plans to operate between 10 and 20 Embraer Regional Jets and about ten A320s on a network that also encompasses extensive regional flights.
