Cayman Airways (KX, Grand Cayman Island) has outlined its fleet renewal plans set to commence during the last quarter of the year. The Caymanian Minister for Tourism, District Administration and Transport, Moses Kirkconnell, said in a statement that the carrier plans to acquire a B737-800 later this year to be followed by four new B737 MAX 8s which will arrive between 2018 and 2020. The new jets will gradually replace the carrier's four existing B737-300s.

"By 2020, the 737-300s will be retired and Cayman Airways will have a fleet complement of four 737 MAX 8 aircraft that will not only give our National Airline the newest fleet in the region, but will also guarantee our growth in tourism air arrivals as we prepare our airport to accommodate more visitors and as our room stock grows accordingly," he said. "Cayman Airways will now have the range to be able to reach any part of the United States and most of Canada with a significant growth in capacity, poising the airline to increase the USD200 million economic contribution to the local economy annually."

Aside from its Boeing (BOE, Washington National) fleet, Cayman Airways also operates two DHC-6-300s and one Saab 340B all of which are on lease from Cayman Airways Express (Grand Cayman Island). It currently operates scheduled passenger flights throughout the Cayman Islands as well as to Cuba, Jamaica, Honduras, and the United States.
