Colombia's civil aviation authority (Unidad Administrativa Especial de Aeronáutica Civil - Aerocivil) has fined LATAM Airlines Colombia (4C, Bogotá) COP242 million peso (USD81,982) for misleading advertising on its website.
The regulator alleges the carrier advertised that passengers could pay their air fare 24 hours prior to departure. However, Aerocivil's investigations revealed that the deadline for payment, in actuality, fell within the 24 hour-period after the booking was made.
"Airlines are required to provide sufficient, clear, accurate and timely information to avoid misleading consumers as has occurred in this case," Aerocivil director general, Alfredo Bocanegra Male, said. "Airlines and travel agents are obliged to inform the passenger about everything related to their journey in a complete, accurate, and sufficient manner".
