Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) has stopped offering direct flights from Berlin Tegel to Abu Dhabi International, San Francisco, Chicago O'Hare, Boston and Los Angeles International from the end of September. Connecting long haul flights via Düsseldorf are still available, with the exception of Dusseldorf – Boston. Flights from Berlin to New York JFK are so far unaffected.

The airline, which is currently facing insolvency proceedings, has cut the loss-making routes as it attempts to stabilise operations.

Reuters reports that Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) is interested in taking over Air Berlin's long-haul routes from Berlin, as well as approximately twelve of its seventeen of its long-haul aircraft.

The sell-off of Air Berlin's assets should wind up in mid-September.
