Green Airlines (Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden) has announced it has chartered two E190s from German Airways (ZQ, Cologne/Bonn) under a long-term commitment as it seeks to grow its operations.
The virtual carrier disclosed that one of the Embraer aircraft would be based out of Paderborn/Lippstadt and the other out of Groningen in the Netherlands. It did not provide any further details regarding its network plans for the E190s. Via Facebook, it told its customers that they should "stay curious" about future developments.
A spokesperson told ch-aviation that "planning is in full swing" with new routes expected to launch during the summer 2021 season but would not disclose any further details.
Currently, Green Airlines is chartering an ATR72-500 from France's Chalair Aviation (CE, Caen) to operate its only scheduled route from Paderborn to Westerland/Sylt, an upscale resort in northern Germany. Following multiple COVID-related delays, the route launched on March 26 and currently operates 2x weekly. According to the carrier's internet booking engine, services connecting Zurich with both Paderborn and Westerland/Sylt are due to launch in early September 2021. The E190s will be deployed on top of the ongoing charter of the ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprop.
Green Airlines originally planned to focus on mainland Germany, connecting Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Berlin Brandenburg International, and Hamburg Helmut Schmidt. While it still lists these cities as its destinations on the website, it provides no details about the potential launch of flights between them.
German Airways, formerly known as WDL Aviation, operates four E190s proferred to the ACMI/charter market. Currently, they are all active on ad hoc charter flights, Flightradar24 ADS-B data indicates.
