Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) has taken delivery of its first A330-900N. The long-awaited delivery occurred on October 15, 2022, when G-VJAZ (msn 2018) was ferried from Toulouse Blagnac to London Heathrow. The aircraft is slated to commence revenue flights on October 27 when it will begin operating services between London Heathrow and Boston.

Virgin Atlantic has 16 of the planes due for delivery between now and 2026. Over the next six months, the new aircraft is timetabled to be deployed onto five UK - US routes; Boston, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson, Miami International, New York JFK, and Tampa International. The airline will need four planes to maintain the proposed schedules. ch-aviation has approached Virgin Atlantic to ascertain when its next A330-900Ns are due to arrive. However, no spokesperson was immediately available for comment.

According to the latest Airbus orders and delivery data, as of September 30 the aircraft manufacturer had taken orders for 264 of the aircraft type and delivered 78. The ch-aviation fleets module reveals four lessors have a total of forty-two A330-900Ns on order. A further 22 are destined for undisclosed customers while 11 passenger airlines, including Virgin Atlantic have outstanding orders. Notably, the sanction restrained IranAir (IR, Tehran Mehrabad) has a sizeable order outstanding while a restructuring Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) is also listed for nine A330-900s and four A330-800Ns.
