Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) will close its hub at Nuremberg by the end of the summer season 2013. It currently operates feeder flights from Dresden, Hannover, Leipzig/Halle, Münster/Osnabrück, Paderborn/Lippstadt and Saarbrücken to Nuremberg and then offers transfer passengers leisure oriented routes from there to the Mediterranean and North Africa. Nuremberg will now just be able to retain non-stop services offered by Air Berlin to these destination regions and flights to Air Berlin and Niki (Austria) (Vienna) bases at Berlin Tegel, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Vienna leading to a significant loss of passenger volume at the airport.
