Air Namibia (Windhoek International) and its sole shareholder, the Namibian government, have been slapped with a USD130mllion bill by Intrepid Aviation, for allegedly trying to back out of an agreement for the lease of two new Airbus A330-200s. Namibia's Sun newspaper claims Air Namibia's sudden change of mind arose after the airline was forced to submit a second turnaround plan in order to secure further government funding to the tune of USD120mllion. Part of the plan calls for the Namibian carrier to lease "second hand" Airbus A330s for use on its flights to Frankfurt International, in an effort to cut costs. Under the terms of the agreement signed last year, Intrepid was to lease two brand new Airbus A330-200 aircraft to Air Namibia for 12 years, effective from the end of this year.
