Air China Cargo (CA, Beijing Capital) has placed a firm order with US-based Precision Conversions for the passenger-to-freighter conversion of four B757-200s, the first of which is currently undergoing conversion at the Taikoo Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (TAECO) facility in Xiamen. The second is scheduled for induction in November, with the third and fourth to follow in early 2014. The aircraft to be converted have not been identified, but industry publication Cargo Facts believes they will come from Air China’s eight-strong 757 passenger fleet; three of which were recently stored at Chengdu Shuangliu. Following redelivery, the cargo specialist will deploy the four B757-200PF freighters onto express package delivery operations throughout in China. Air China Cargo, a 50/50 joint venture between Air China (CA, Beijing Capital) and Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International), currently operates nine B747-400Fs that will be replaced with eight B777Fs in due course.
