LAN Argentina (Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) has been accused of stirring up popular sentiment against Argentina by the Argentine airports authority (Organismo Regulador del Sistema Nacional de Aeropuertos - ORSNA) in their latest trade off over an MRO hangar LAN leases at Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery that ORSNA has demanded be vacated before the end of the month. "We asked for the hangar, but we never said they had to stop flying. LAN said that to generate alarm among passengers, unions and the rest of society," Gustavo Lipovich, the head of airport regulator ORSNA, told a state news agency on Thursday. LAN claims it still has 10 years left on the lease and says the eviction threatens not only its operations, but also the jobs of various workers employed on base. LATAM Vice President Enrique Cueto said the continued harassment of LAN is "part of a campaign to damage the airline in the country." The dispute has reportedly triggered a flurry of diplomatic activity between Buenos Aires and Santiago, home of the airline's major shareholders, which once included Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.
