Futura International Airways (Palma de Mallorca) , Futura Gael (FGL/Dublin) and FlyAnt (FYA/Vitoria) have suspended operations on September 7 because of financial difficulties of the Futura group. The carriers had announced plans to immediately restart operations under bankruptcy protection with approximately 50% of its fleets and staff but these plans have not yet materialized. The failure of Futura had an impact on other carriers such as Air Algérie (AH/Algiers), Arke Fly (OR/Amsterdam), Binter Canarias (NT/Las Palmas), Blue Air (Romania) (0B/Bucharest Baneasa), Blue Panorama Airlines (BV/Rome Fiumicino), Jetairfly (TB/Brussels Ntl), JetX (GX/Reykjavik Keflavik) and Sun Express (XQ/Antalya) that had all wet-leased one or several B737s from the carrier. EuroAtlantic Airways (MM/Lisbon) and Pegasus Airlines (H9/Istanbul Ataturk) have reportedly shown interest in taking over Futura out of bankruptcy protection.
