Shanghai Airlines (FM, Shanghai Hongqiao) took delivery of its maiden B787-9 on September 22, following the delivery of the Boeing widebody from Everett to Shanghai Hongqiao.

The aircraft, B-1111 (msn 63706), comes from the order for fifteen B787-9s placed by parent China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao) and is powered by General Electric GEnx-1B64 engines. It seats a total of 285 passengers, including 30 in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy, and 227 in Economy.

According to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, the aircraft operated test flights between Shanghai Hongqiao and Changzhou on September 23. Its maiden scheduled route will be to Chengdu Shuangliu on September 28. Subsequently, Shanghai Airlines plans to deploy the B787-9 to Beijing Capital, Japan, and South Korea.

The airline currently operates ten B737-700, seventy-six B737-800s, six B737-8s, two B767-300s, three A330-200s and two A330-300s, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. It also wet-leases one A321-200 from its parent China Eastern.

Shanghai Airlines operates predominantly domestically out of its hubs at Shanghai Hongqiao and Shanghai Pudong airports. The airline's international network is limited to destinations in Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Macao, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
