Germania Flug (Zurich) has become a wholly-Swiss-owned company, chief executive Tobias Somandin has revealed.

The change in ownership took place earlier this month. However, the value of the transaction, let alone who acquired bankrupt carrier Germania's stake in the Swiss leisure specialist, was not revealed.

The airline was founded in August 2014 as a joint-venture between Germania and Swiss leisure firm, Hotelplan.

"We have taken an important step and are keeping to our promise to maintain our flight operations in Switzerland stable and according to schedule. We are on track and are pleased about the great trust Swiss tour operators, travel agencies and end customers have placed in us," Somandin said in a statement.

Going forward, the executive said that services that had previously been provided in Berlin would either be integrated into the carrier's own structures or outsourced to third-party providers. To that end, talks and negotiations are currently ongoing.

Until then, these services will be sourced from Germany as usual.

"Our top priority is reliable and stable flight operations. A change of brand as well as an adaptation of the appearance are additional steps in our transformation process," Somandin added.

In terms of operations, Germania Flug will assume Air Prishtina's flights from Basel to Prishtina and operate them as a full charter.

Germania Flug currently operates two A319-100s and one A321-200 on flights primarily out of Zurich to various points across the Mediterranean basin, the Canary Islands, the Red Sea, Scandinavia, and the Balkans.

Germania's other subsidiary, Bulgarian ACMI operator Bulgarian Eagle (Sofia) is currently inactive with both its A319s in storage.
