RavnAir Group, which operates three airline brands, RavnAir Alaska (operated by Corvus Airlines and Hageland Aviation Services), PenAir, and RavnAir Connect (operated by Hageland Aviation Services), experienced a malicious cyberattack on its IT network, forcing it to cancel some flights with its Dash 8-100 fleet in late December, according to news releases from the operator.

The attack forced the group to disconnect its maintenance system and its back-up for its Dash 8s, 10 of which are operated by RavnAir Alaska. The regional airline's biggest operating base is Anchorage Ted Stevens, which commands 23% of the carrier's weekly capacity. The group's services from PenAir and RavnAir Connect subsidiaries were still operating normally on back-up systems.

RavnAir confirmed on December 28 that the impact of the service disruption was now more extensive than initially reported. While the group continues to operate flights at all three of its airlines, company officials and external experts have now determined that it may take as long as a month to have all affected IT systems fully restored and back to normal.

Given this news, the airline's customers should expect some additional cancellations and delays at all three airlines as recovery efforts continue in coordination with government officials and external cyber crime experts.
