easyJet (London Luton) has announced plans to close its base at Madrid Barajas by the end of the IATA summer timetable at the end of October. easyJet currently has 9 A319-100s based at Madrid and says it will cut total capacity at the airport by about 20% as a result of the base closure continuing to operate several routes with aircraft based elsewhere. It has cited over capacity, low yields and high airport charges as reasons for the move.
