AirJapan (NQ, Tokyo Haneda) took delivery of its first B787-8 on January 24, 2024, and began revenue operations on the first route connecting Tokyo Narita and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi on February 9.

JA803A (msn 34485) was operated by sister carrier ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) through December 1, 2023 and was then ferried for cabin refurbishment to Xiamen, ahead of redelivery to Narita on January 24. The aircraft is now configured for up to 324 passengers in a single-class layout.

The ANA Holdings budget carrier will focus on bringing foreign tourists to Japan. Following its inaugural flight to Bangkok, initially scheduled as 6x weekly, it plans to also open Seoul Incheon and Singapore Changi later this year.

ANA mainline currently operates thirty-seven B787-8s and a further forty-two B787-9s. AirJapan will be the group's third mainline brand, next to ANA itself and short-haul low-cost carrier Peach Aviation (MM, Osaka Kansai). The holding also owns regional capacity provider ANA Wings (EH, Sapporo Chitose).
