Air Niugini (PX, Port Moresby) took delivery of its first A220-300 on lease from Azorra, P2-PGA (msn 55388), on September 15, 2025.

According to ADS-B data, P2-PGA departed from the Airbus Canada assembly line at Montréal Mirabel on September 11, proceeding to Port Moresby via Vancouver International, Honolulu, and Nadi. It arrived ahead of the celebration of Papua New Guinea's fiftieth anniversary of independence.

The aircraft is the first of the carrier's eleven A220 commitments, comprising eight A220-100s on a direct order from Airbus and three A220-300s signed up on leases from Azorra. Another A220-300 is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025, the third one for early 2026, while deliveries of the -100s are scheduled between 2027 and 2029.

The airline's A220 fleet will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines. The -100s will feature a two-class configuration with 113 seats: eight in business and 105 in economy. The -300s will feature 130 economy class and eight business class seats.

The new A220 fleet will eventually replace Air Niugini's ageing F100 and B737-800 aircraft. Currently, all three B737-800s and only two of the five F100s are active. The carrier also has an outstanding order for two B787-8s to replace a pair of B767-300ERs.

The A220s are scheduled to debut on services from Port Moresby to Lae Nadzab, Kavieng, and Manus from October 4.
