Greater Bay Airlines (HB, Hong Kong International) is slated to debut its first B737-9 by December 17, 2025, the airline announced. The low-cost carrier expects to receive the first two units of the type by the end of 2025.
Greater Bay Airlines said in a press release that it will deploy the first B737-9 on the Hong Kong International-Sapporo Chitose route in December. As more aircraft arrive by 2026, the carrier aims to expand its B737 MAX operations to more routes in the Asia-Pacific.
The B737-9 fleet will see the introduction of a premium class cabin product. It will be fitted with eight seats of the new class and 189 seats in standard economy.
ch-aviation fleets data shows that the first unit will be registered B-KWA (msn 64132), while the second one will be B-KWB (msn 64129). B-KWA performed its most recent test flight over Seattle Boeing Field on October 2.
The carrier currently has firm orders for fifteen B737-9s directly from Boeing, placed in 2023. Initially, deliveries were planned to start by August 2024 but are now delayed by more than a year.
Greater Bay Airlines operates a fleet of seven B737-800s, which it configures with a 189-seat all-economy layout.
