Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale International) has cancelled the furloughs of 365 pilots planned for January 2026, Reuters reported. The shift is reportedly due to a high attrition rate, which made the layoffs unnecessary. The low-cost carrier is still planning to downgrade 25 pilots to first captains, but that is also a significant reduction from the initially planned 170 demotions. The airline currently employs around 2,400 pilots. "The business case supporting large-scale furloughs simply did not align with current data," the Association of Air Line Pilots said.
