Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) will launch a daily route from Helsinki Vantaa via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Melbourne Airport on October 26, 2026, pending government approvals, making it the only EU operator with scheduled flights to Australia. Currently, the only two European airlines flying to Australia are British Airways, which serves Sydney Kingsford Smith via Singapore Changi, and Turkish Airlines, which operates to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur International and to Melbourne via Singapore.

Finnair aims to have fifth-freedom rights between Melbourne and Bangkok. It will deploy its A350-900s on the route.
