Sun PhuQuoc Airways (9G, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has signed a tentative order with Boeing for up to forty B787-9s. The deal was revealed on February 18 at a ceremony in Washington, DC, attended by high-ranking Vietnamese officials.

The Boeing widebodies will enable the airline to operate nonstop services from its hub at Phu Quoc to destinations in Europe, North America, and Northeast Asia. Once firmed, the agreement will be the first direct aircraft purchase for the carrier and the largest widebody order in Vietnamese aviation history.

"We selected the B787-9 not only for its superior operational performance, but because it is the most suitable aircraft type to realise our vision of bringing Phu Quoc to the world," said Sun Group chairman Dang Minh Truong. He added that the acquisition aligns with the company's "resort aviation" business model.

The airline, a subsidiary of Sun Group, aims to operate a fleet of 100 aircraft by the end of 2030. According to previous statements by CEO Nguyen Manh Quan, the carrier plans to split this capacity between more than sixty Airbus narrowbodies and forty Boeing widebodies.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways received its certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam in late September 2025. It commenced scheduled operations in November 2025 with a fleet of A320 Family aircraft, initially serving domestic routes including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi Noi Bai International, and Da Nang.

ch-aviation fleets data shows the start-up operates two A320-200Ns, which were delivered in February 2026, two A321-200s, and five A321-200NX.
