European Cargo (SE, Bournemouth) will open an operating base at Teesside and operate five weekly long-haul cargo flights out of the airport in northeastern England. The airline did not disclose the destinations of the flights but suggested they would focus on bringing cargo from China. European Cargo will deploy its A340-600(P2F)s out of the airport. It currently operates six units of the type, all of them currently based out of Bournemouth, although the airline also operates a secondary base at Cardiff. Teesside, which sees limited passenger traffic from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Ryanair, is investing in a new cargo facility, aiming to become a logistics hub for northern England.
