Nigeria has unveiled a 20-year Civil Aviation Master Plan (2025-2045) prepared together with the International Civil Aviation Organisation, marking a key step in efforts to modernise and expand the country’s aviation sector, aviation minister Festus Keyamo announced.
The plan, presented at the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium in Marrakech on April 14, aligns with Nigeria’s National Development Plan and positions aviation as a driver of long-term economic growth.
It prioritises airport modernisation, "aerotropolis development", new technologies, and stronger safety, security, and environmental standards, while also focusing on workforce development.
"The presentation of the landmark document marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector, signalling a bold and structured pathway for the industry’s transformation over the next few decades," Keyamo declared in a statement on social media, adding that it includes the deployment of advanced technologies such as unmanned aerial systems.
The plan is expected to attract investment, expand cargo and maintenance infrastructure, and bolster Nigeria’s role as a regional aviation hub.
