The government of Chhattisgarh has told the state's high court that it will not subsidise privately owned airlines to serve Bilaspur, although carriers may launch flights at their own discretion. It said it had already invested INR1 billion rupees (USD10.6 million) in runway renovation, as well as other approved infrastructure works.
The state added that only Alliance Air (India) (9I, Delhi International) currently receives support. Now-defunct flybig (Indore) also previously operated to the airport. The court has requested a fresh affidavit detailing progress before the next hearing in the last week of July, and will continue to monitor development of the airport.
