Jubba Airways (Kenya) (JBW, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) is planning to add two F100s to its fleet, chief executive Saïd Qailie reconfirmed to ch-aviation, though declining to discuss the details, claiming the deal is not yet finalised and the serial numbers of the regional jets may still change.
He was responding to a report by Newsaero that the first F100 would be 5Y-MMX (msn 11373), previously operated in Australia by Virgin Australia Regional and Alliance Airlines, the latter having owned the aircraft, according to ch-aviation data.
ADS-B data shows that 34.5-year-old 5Y-MMX arrived in Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta on May 19 after being ferried from Woensdrecht in the Netherlands.
Qailie first disclosed plans to acquire two F100s in an interview with ch-aviation in April, as Jubba Airways continues to restructure its fleet by phasing out F50 turboprops and eventually returning to being an all-narrowbody carrier.
The Kenyan carrier received the first of two B737-300s bought from Sideral Linhas Aéreas (SID, Curitiba International) in April, but B737-300(QC) 5Y-JAB (msn 26851) has not yet been deployed and remains stored at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta. Delivery of its sister ship has been delayed since May.
Qailie previously told ch-aviation that the airline also intends to add two B737-400s, to end up with a fleet of four Boeing Classics, but the deal for the latter has also not yet been finalised.
