Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Airport) will launch passenger services from Sydney Nancy Bird Walton (Western Sydney) when the new airport opens in October 2026 under a five-year agreement covering domestic passenger and freight operations, the airlines and airport said.

Jetstar Airways will launch services from the new airport to Melbourne Airport, Gold Coast Coolangatta, and Brisbane International from October 25, 2026. The carrier will operate up to 14x weekly A320-200 flights on the Melbourne route, alongside 4x weekly services to Gold Coast Coolangatta and 3x weekly flights to Brisbane.

The Jetstar flight from Western Sydney to Gold Coast scheduled on October 25 will be the first revenue service out of the new airport.

In turn, Qantas will begin passenger operations from Western Sydney on March 28, 2027, operating 4x weekly flights each to Brisbane and Melbourne using an E190 aircraft operated by Alliance Airlines.

The flights are additional to the Qantas Group's existing operations at Sydney Kingsford Smith and are intended to expand capacity across the Sydney metropolitan area, the companies said.

Qantas Freight (Sydney Kingsford Smith) will start operating from Western Sydney's 24-hour cargo facility on July 27, 2026, one day after it officially opens. Qantas Group chief executive Vanessa Hudson said more than 850 tonnes of freight are expected to move through the carrier's new terminal each week.

The new Western Sydney International Airport is scheduled to open for passenger operations on October 25, 2026, becoming Australia's first major greenfield international airport development in more than 50 years.
