United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) is reportedly evaluating taking up to 20 early-built B777-9s, which need significant rework and have been shunned by other large customers for the type. The airline has no confirmed orders for the type, but has a fleet of twenty-two B777-300ERs and no replacement aircraft on order. Its largest confirmed type will be the A350-900, of which it has 45 on order. Tim Clark, the chairman of Emirates, recently said the early-built B777-9s were as good as "baked bean tins" due to the amount of required modifications, and underlined that Emirates would not be taking them despite being the type's largest customer with 235 units on firm order.
