The UK Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that it has allowed London Heathrow (Heathrow Airport Limited) to incur additional costs on airlines and travellers to recover the early-stage investments in its third runway project. Heathrow Airport Limited can recover up to GBP320 million pounds (USD430 million) in early costs originating from 2025-2026 through airport charges. Meanwhile, Heathrow West Limited, which had posted an unsuccessful design bid for the new runway, can recover around GBP4.1 million (USD5.5 million) in costs incurred before November 2025. A further consultation on post-2026 costs is expected later this year. Heathrow and airlines have six weeks to appeal to the UK Competition and Markets Authority.
