The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has threatened stricter sanctions against Royal Air Maroc (AT, Casablanca Mohammed V), including recommending a suspension of its operations in the country, over what it claims are repeated violations of passengers' rights and regulatory non-compliance.

In a statement on social media, Michael Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer protection at the NCAA, accused the Moroccan carrier of persistent baggage handling failures, poor complaint resolution, and failing to adequately compensate passengers affected by delayed luggage.

Achimugu said the authority had sanctioned Royal Air Maroc for alleged consumer protection violations in 2025 but claimed the carrier had made little improvement despite regulatory engagement. He also accused the airline of repeatedly failing to send senior representatives with decision-making authority to NCAA-convened meetings.

Achimugu said the NCAA would pursue stricter enforcement measures and seek to halt the airline's Nigerian operations unless it commits to improving its treatment of passengers. He assured that the regulator would continue enforcing consumer protection rules and bilateral air service obligations.

Royal Air Maroc has not publicly responded to the allegations or commented to ch-aviation by the time of publication.

The airline serves both Abuja and Lagos from Casablanca Mohammed V with B737-8 and B737-800 equipment, according to ch-aviation data.
