The recovery of DHC-6-300 5W-FAY (msn 690) of Samoa Airways (OL, Apia Faleolo) from a ditch at Fitiuta airport could take up to three months after its runway excursion on July 28, 2026. The operation requires specialist equipment to be transported to the remote airport. As previously reported, 5W-FAY returned to service on July 21 after a comprehensive overhaul overseas. The carrier spent a combined WST22 million tala (USD8 million) on the refurbishment of 5W-FAY and sister aircraft 5W-FAW (msn 827). It also has one other DHC-6-300, 5W-STF (msn 402).
