SunExpress (XQ, Antalya) could accelerate the retirement of its B737-800s as persistently high fuel prices increase pressure to operate a more fuel-efficient fleet. The move is also being supported by the continued punctual delivery of new B737-8s, with 11 aircraft expected in 2027. The leisure carrier said its fleet planning is guided by market demand, fleet modernisation, and sustainable growth objectives.

"With 64 additional Boeing aircraft scheduled for delivery in the coming years, we have the flexibility to either expand our fleet further or accelerate the renewal of our existing fleet. Both options remain viable, particularly given current fuel prices, and will be evaluated regularly based on market developments. Consequently, no fixed timeline has been defined for either scenario," a spokesperson said.

SunExpress currently operates fifty-eight B737-800s and twenty-eight B737-8s, according to ch-aviation data. The airline confirmed it has a total backlog of sixty-four B737 MAX on firm order, of which 17 are B737-10. In addition, it has the option to convert some of its B737-8 orders to the larger B737-10 model.
