GetJet Group has confirmed to ch-aviation that Air Sénégal has bought B737-800, LY-SEI (msn 32692), but said the aircraft continues to be operated by its GetJet Airlines subsidiary under a wet-lease arrangement pending the finalisation of regulatory procedures in Senegal.

"We can confirm that the Boeing 737-800 was sold to Air Sénégal as part of our long-standing and expanding partnership with the airline. GetJet Airlines continues to operate the aircraft on an ACMI basis while its certification and induction into Air Sénégal’s AOC are being completed," explained GetJet Group CEO Darius Viltrakis.

The statement clears up the aircraft's status following its arrival at Dakar Blaise Diagne International on September 7, 2026, under an ACMI arrangement and Lithuanian registration.

Air Sénégal had previously announced through local media that it had acquired its first own Boeing 737-800 in a transaction "fully financed and managed by the Senegalese government". Chief Executive Tidiane Ndiaye described the acquisition as a vote of confidence in the airline's growth prospects.

"We see Air Sénégal’s investment in its own Boeing fleet and capabilities as a strong step forward, and GetJet Group is supporting this process with its asset management, MRO and supply-chain expertise," Viltrakis said. "This reflects a model we increasingly offer airline partners – starting with wet lease, progressing to damp lease and ultimately supporting a smooth transition of the aircraft and operations in-house."

According to ADS-B data, the 19.3-year-old aircraft had been wet-leased to Air Sénégal since May 30, 2026. It had been at Casablanca Mohammed V since August 31, and was repainted in a livery promoting the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in Senegal from October 31 to November 13, 2026.

The aircraft's arrival in Dakar was attended by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, who named it "Gorée" during a christening ceremony. Transport Minister Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye was among the other officials present.

Air Sénégal did not respond to requests for comment.
