The head of Zimbabwe's Securities and Exchange Commission (SECZ) has proposed a potential listing of Air Zimbabwe (UM, Harare International) on either the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) or the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) as a means of raising capital for the struggling national carrier.

SECZ acting CEO Tichaona Mushambadope told the Harare-based newspaper The Chronicle that a "functional airline" was critical to Zimbabwe's tourism ambitions, particularly to efforts to attract international visitors and investment.

He believed that a stockmarket listing could allow Air Zimbabwe to access both domestic and foreign capital while broadening public participation in its restructuring. He said a VFEX listing could provide access to US-dollar-denominated capital, while a ZSE listing would broaden access to local investors.

Mushambadope made the comments on the sidelines of the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe Tourism Investment Forum in Masvingo. The proposal comes as the Zimbabwean government seeks to expand tourism as a source of foreign currency, investment, and employment.

The airline also wet leases one ATR42-500, 5Y-RNV (msn 637), from Kenya Renegade Air for domestic flights.
