GAMair (Melbourne Essendon) has sold its remaining Do228-200s, ending 21 years of operating the type, the Australian operator announced in a social media post.

"From conducting scenic reef tours in Far North Queensland, to supporting FIFO operations during the oil and gas construction boom, and finally serving as dedicated freighters for TOLL Group, now TGE, these aircraft have played a significant role in GAM's history," GAMair said.

GAM Group chief executive Carl Jepsen confirmed to ch-aviation that it sold three Do228-200s to an undisclosed operator in Kenya. ch-aviation has since learned that KASAS (Nairobi Wilson) purchased the group's remaining Do228s, replacing units that were sold to an operator based in the Philippines.

According to data from Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), the operator has two remaining Do228-200s on the Australian register, VH-VJJ (msn 8025) and VH-VJN (msn 8040). Both were manufactured in 1984 and have been registered to GAMair since 2007. The two Honeywell Aerospace TPE 331-powered turboprops were last tracked flying in April 2026 and June 2025, respectively, based on ADS-B data.

The operator had previously offered two Do228-200s, VH-VJE (msn 8041) and VH-VJN, for sale, ch-aviation research shows. These aircraft were initially advertised together for USD2 million, with an additional spare parts and tooling package also available. VH-VJE is no longer registered in Australia, while VH-VJN remains on the register.

The wider GAM Group has 33 aircraft registered in Australia, including twenty-three Commanders, three Turbo Commanders, one Beech 1900D(F), two Beech 1900D(Super Freighter)s, two Do228-200s, Cessna (single turboprop) 208Bs, and one Piper (twin piston) PA-31.

The retirement follows GAMair's acquisition of three Beech 1900D(F)s from Aero Vip in April 2026, as previously reported by ch-aviation. The first aircraft entered revenue service at the end of May, and the carrier has since added two more to its Australian fleet under a long-term freight contract with Team Global Express (TFX, Melbourne Airport).
