Mozambique has revised the estimated investment in its Civil Aviation System Master Plan 2026-2045 downwards to USD420 million, from USD710 million, to improve its feasibility, according to Emanuel Chaves, chairman of the country's civil aviation institute (Instituto de Aviação Civil de Moçambique - IACM).
Speaking at an annual conference on mineral development (Conferência sobre Adição de Valor com Base em Minerais e Energia Disponíveis - CAVAME-d 2026) in Nacala-Porto, Nampula Province, on October 21, 2026, he said the IACM is working with the African Development Bank to mobilise the funding.
Approved in January 2026, the master plan covers 141 individual tasks, including airport upgrades, and improved connectivity and safety, with Pemba, MZ and Vilanculos among those targeted for capacity improvements.
The regulator also plans to strengthen cooperation with the mineral resources and energy sectors to ensure air transport and logistics capacity meets Mozambique's growing extractive industry needs, Chaves said.
