PAL Airlines (Santiago de Chile) executive director, Fernando Musiet, has confirmed that his airline will cease operating scheduled domestic Chilean flights between Santiago de Chile, Antofagasta, Calama, Concepcion Carriel Sur, Copiapó Desierto de Atacama and Iquique with effect from August. Mr Musiet said PAL would now instead reorient its business towards the charter sector with the tour operator market and the migrant-worker charter business being of particular interest. PAL intends to focus on providing logistical support to the Chilean mining sector with cargo & freight operations. Charter operations currently make up 75% of the airline's business.
