Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) has refuted claims that its MRO subsidiary, Air Berlin Technik, will be sold off despite moves by 30% shareholder, Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International), to cut costs by reducing the amount of redundant infrastructure that exists across its portfolio of airlines. Both the Emirati carrier and Air Berlin last year agreed to pool the MRO and parts supply for their respective incoming fleets of forty-one B787-9s and fifteen B787-8s. Air Berlin is expecting a further liquidity boost from Etihad in the near future amid speculation that the German airline may bid for a stake in LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin).
