Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) has assigned its management team to discuss continuing negotiations with Saudi Arabia's Prince Faisal al-Saud, represented by London-based AvCon Worldwide, over the stalled sale of one of its parked A340-500s. The Thais are said to have cancelled the deal after AvCon offered just USD23million for the aircraft, far lower than its book value of USD66.9million. The Bangkok Post reports that the firm had originally intended to buy four of Thai's retired A340-500s only for the airline to balk and agree to negotiate for one. Thus far, AvCon has paid a THB79.5million (USD2.5million) deposit. Thai has now set up a committee to investigate how the aircraft can be sold at better prices or to different buyers.
