Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) and India's Tata Group have received approval from the Indian Corporate Affairs ministry to use the name "TATA Sia Airlines Ltd" for their joint venture's holding company. While the airline's actual brand name has yet to be revealed, it will reportedly be a full-service carrier offering both domestic and international flights. Both parties have thus far contributed USD100million towards the venture's launch, expected to be in 2014 pending the necessary regulatory approvals. Tata has a long varied history in India's aviation field with JRD Tata having started Tata Airlines in 1932, later renamed to Air India (AI, Delhi International) in 1946 before it was subsequently nationalised in 1953. Tata Group also have a partnership with AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) in which they intend to establish a Low Cost Carrier.
