Blu Express (Rome Fiumicino) is set to withdraw from a number of domestic Italian routes in the wake of rising competition from other European Low Cost Carriers. Sources in the Italian aviation industry inform ch-aviation that the onslaught of Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) has already forced the Blue Panorama Airlines (Rome Fiumicino) subsidiary to abandon its Bari to Catania and Palermo International routes while pressure from Ryanair (FR, Dublin International), easyJet (London Luton) and Vueling Airlines (VY, Barcelona El Prat) will result in it terminating its Rome Fiumicino to Catania and Palermo services from June 4.
With new available capacity, the airline says this summer, it plans to boost services to Tirana while introducing new flights between Bologna and Mykonos, Thira Santorini, Preveza/Lefkas and Zakinthos.
Blue Panorama has also announced plans to add a third B767-300 in July to boost its international long-haul capability.
