Vanilla Air (Tokyo Narita) has announced it will cancel 154 flights during the month of June owing to a shortage of qualified pilots. In a statement, the ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) subsidiary said flights from Tokyo Narita to Okinawa Naha and Sapporo Chitose would be most affected by the rationalization.
Airline president, Tomonori Ishii, told reporters in Tokyo that with some pilots still in training and others sourced from ANA, services would return to normal during the month of July.
In late April, sister carrier Peach Aviation (MM, Osaka Kansai) announced it too would be cancelling a total of 448 domestic and international flights in May and June due to a shortage of qualified pilots.
