Airnorth (Australia) (TL, Darwin) will take over Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) operations from both Cairns and Darwin to Nhulunbuy, in Australia's Northern Territory, with effect from August 16 and 17 respectively. Both routes currently operated by a daily QantasLink B717-200.
“Airnorth’s Embraer E170s are a great fit for this route going forward and we look forward to facilitating them and their passengers,” Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Brown, said. “As the Cairns - Gove flight continues on to Darwin, the Airnorth service will offer a more even spread of departure times throughout the day for travellers heading to the NT capital, a route which has shown a 20% increase over the past year.
Gove Airport serves the mining town of Nhulunbuy and several Aboriginal communities including Yirrkala.
