Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) is looking to accelerate the retirement of its B737 Classics fleet in a bid to urgently cut soaring fuel costs, Garuda's Director and CEO, Emirsyah Satar, has said.

"We want to fast forward the phasing out of older series airplanes. The manner in which we propose to do so is by way of auction. We are still waiting on the results of our team's calculations, because we have to adjust to the arrival of the new aircraft," he told the country's press last month.

ch-aviation schedule data shows the Indonesian national carrier operated its last scheduled B737-300 flight on September 30 from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta to Bengkulu and Tanjung Pinang. At present, it still maintains a fleet of three B737-500s used on inter-island domestic flights.
