Jet2 (United Kingdom) (LS, Leeds/Bradford) and Citywing (Isle of Man) have announced the suspension of their respective Blackpool operations later this month after airport management failed to attract a suitable longterm investor by the October 7 deadline.
"We regret to announce that no agreement has been reached to secure the future of operations at Blackpool Airport. The airport operation has been making a loss for a number of years and unfortunately there is no option for the company other than to close," the airport's operators, Balfour Beatty, said. "The airport will remain open to the public until October 15, 2014 and we will endeavour to maintain operations as normal until this date, after which time commercial flights will cease."
Citywing (Isle of Man) has said that it will temporarily suspend its Isle of Man flights from October 15 for a period of four weeks while Jet2 has said that effective October 10, it will be transferring its Blackpool services to Manchester. Stobart Air (Dublin International) will also terminate its Dublin International services, operated on behalf of Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International), on October 15.
