Viking Air (VKN, Victoria International) could supply the Cardiff Business Council (CBC) with DHC-6-400 Seaplanes should a planned new Welsh business venture which aims to connect the capital, Cardiff, with the rest of the country and London, take off.
In its proposal, the CBC said it would operate flights from Cardiff Bay to Swansea Bay while services to the north of the country would operate via Llyn Tegid (Lake Bala) and Lake Vyrnwy in Powys. The CBC has also held talks with London City Airport over the possibility of using nearby docks for business-oriented flights.
The project's chief proponent and chairman of the CBC, Nigel Roberts, says that while talks have already taken place with a Canadian operator, the proposal is open to investment from operators around the world.
"We have already talked to an operator of a seaplane service between Victoria and Vancouver in Canada and they are interested in getting involved," he said. “As well as the Canadians we will be seeking expressions of interest from seaplane operators and potential investors globally, so we can take this exciting project to the next stage."
In 2011, Scottish firm Loch Lomond Seaplanes proposed to operate scenic flights to Wales' numerous lakes, also using Cardiff Bay as a primary hub. The project, however, never came into being.
