Waterfront Air (Hong Kong International) says its Chinese partner, HaiXiang Air (Shenzhen), has secured preliminary approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for its Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

According to the Hong Kong-based virtual carrier, HaiXiang Air will operate under two trade names: Waterfront Air for seaplanes and Fortune Air for executive jets and regional turboprop charters.

Once operational, Waterfront Air intends to offer scheduled flights between the new Shenzhen International Airport Ferry Pier, Hong Kong Victoria Harbour, Macau's Cotai Strip, and Guangzhou's Pearl River using DHC-6-300 amphibians.

The start-up is reportedly still looking for investors keen to participate in the project.
