Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) has taken delivery of its first A350-900 aircraft from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) in a ceremony held in Toulouse Blagnac prior to the aircraft's delivery flight to Singapore's Changi airport.

Registered 9V-SMA (msn 26) the aircraft is equipped with a three class configuration including 187 Economy, 24 Premium Economy and 42 Business class seats. It is the first of a total of 67 A350-900s the Singaporean flag carrier has on order from Airbus including seven ULR versions of the aircraft.

SIA plans to initially operate the aircraft on its route to Kuala Lumpur International for crew planning purposes before using it on long haul services to Amsterdam Schiphol and Düsseldorf initially. It is the fifth A350 operator after Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International), Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi Noi Bai International), Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) and TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas).
